Al LairdVisit Al's work at: The Fine Art of Alfred J Laird Alfred Laird is currently painting in a style that combines his love of pointillism, pop art and mosaics for a truly unique look. Although his art takes its cue from the pointillism of Seurat, Signac and Pissaro, he shuns the 'scientific' blending of colors, and prefers an all over approach of coloring to produce vibrant, colorful works within a variety of subjects with a touch of 'pop' influence. Al was born and raised in the Northeast section of Philadelphia, PA. He grew up in a typical row-home of the area and started drawing regularly at an early age. Finding a freedom in art that he couldn't get in other activities, he enjoyed drawing his favorite cartoon characters and recollects having and old 'erector set' box filled with drawings of fish, trees and cars. Painting would eventually become the dominant interest in his life as he would seriously study the works of his artistic heroes Van Gogh and Picasso as well as countless others. Today, Al currently resides in Southern New Jersey and is an avid painter & photographer and is involved with the Riverfront Renaissance Center for the Arts, Ocean City Arts Center and the Ocean City Fine Arts League. Al brings over 15 years of experience to his craft as well as being published in newspapers, books, and magazines as well as having his work shown in galleries and placed in private collections within the United States.
