The Lindsay Wray Collection

Lindsay is a self-taught abstract painter who has progressed from photography to impasto-like painting.

Her creative journey began while pursuing a business degree at Rider University, where she took a photography class which tapped into her creative side. After careers in insurance and real estate, photography continued as a hobby but slowly evolved into a second career freelancing for The Press of Atlantic City and online marketing firms.

As a frequent summer visitor to Cape Cod, Lindsay became intrigued by the style of Cape regional artists, especially the late Steve Lyons, who has been credited with creating sculptural painting. Lyons took impasto to the next level by using various palette knives to work thick media and gels into textured, sculpted waves and seascapes. The effect on Lindsay was immediate. "I can do this!" she recalls, inspired to emulate yet not imitate his style.

During the Covid pandemic, experimenting in her studio soon replaced photography entirely. Lindsay was on her way to painting full-time.With additional encouragement from her mother, Sally Roik, an accomplished artist in her own right, Lindsay set out on her new artistic path.

Her work is diverse but reflects a strong coastal influence. Her subject matter is ever changing, and she works on many paintings at once in a tornado of creative energy.

Lindsay currently shows her work at the Ocean City Fine Arts League and the AVRA Gallery in Margate. She was proud to be part of her second show at the Ocean City Arts Center in 2024.
