Artist's Statement
When I paint I look for a scene or an object with shapes, patterns, colors and sometimes textures that I enjoy intensely. I frequently rearrange the subject and create my own composition. I love the spontaneity one experiences in this medium and particularly enjoy emphasizing shadows, painting dark colors against much lighter colors and planning areas of white space. The sparkle one can achieve with brushwork is also important to me. Hopefully viewers of my work linger to enjoy my use of all of these elements as I interpret a variety of subjects. I've always loved the work of the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists and am influenced by them.
