Michael Waters

Born in Atlantic City, N.J. in 1957 Michael Waters became interested in art at an early age. After studying illustration at Parsons School of Design in New York City he embarked on a career as a fashion illustrator in New York’s garment district. An avid traveler he has lived for extended periods in Key West, Fl. Torremolinos, Spain and New Orleans, Louisiana. Now living back in his hometown of Ventnor, N.J. he is pursuing his passion for painting.

Waters, style is rooted in his process. The primary vision underlying the work only serves as the point of departure and is far less important than the transformation that occurs in and through creation of the work. He uses deliberate yet ultimately spontaneous brushstrokes or arbitrary scraps of paper to create forms as opposed to just filling them in. Instinct and chance play the principal part in his endeavor to achieve an end goal of classic balance and harmony.
