Originally from Pennsylvania Ray Haworth has lived in New Jersey for the last 30 years, currently living in Egg Harbor with his wife Michele. For nearly 20 years Ray has worked mostly in transparent watercolor and finds inspiration from the local South Jersey landscape and community scenes.
Educated in Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Germany and New Jersey over many years he now holds an Associate in Arts degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Natural Science.
Typical working method is to plan slowly and then to develop the painting quickly. Important design decisions are made ahead of time via loose graphic value patterns and color schemes that will best describe the subject. Once painting begins experience and intuition take over to add spontaneous changes helping to bring the process to completion.
“…the painting process is such great fun in itself that making a masterpiece every time is not expected and usually this idea is a relaxing and freeing thought which always makes for a better result in watercolor. Spontaneity and originality is my main goal. Although representational and actual real places and scenes are important, precise and factual realism is not.”
It is hoped you enjoy viewing these works as much as the painter has enjoyed making them. Thank you for interest and visit to this exhibit.
